In my book this lady should be Fluff of the month, year and century! I am of course talking about the one and only Mo’Nique. The first time I saw Mo’Nique was as Nikki on “The Parkers”, I was immediately hooked! After that I needed to see everything she’s ever done. Not only is she very talented but she is also a very proud fluffy woman, and that is just one of the many reasons why we love her!
Her career started as a simple dare from her brother to perform at a local open mic night in her home town of Baltimore Maryland. From there she was off and running, in 1999 she starred in the hit show “The Parkers” as the award winning Nikki Parker. She has guest starred on hit shows such as Nip/Tuck, Ugly Betty and The Bernie Mac Show, just to name a few. In 2008 she landed her own late night talk show on B.E.T and cracks us up every night before we go to bed. And we can’t forget “Mo’Niques F.A.T Chance”, the first ever plus size model search that she hosted and was the executive producer on for two amazing seasons.
Lucky for us TV was not all she wrote, she has appeared in over 15 films, has been nominated for over 30 awards and has graced numerous magazine covers. In 2008 she starred in the emotionally beautiful movie “Precious” and has already won 7 awards for her performance including the Golden Globe and The Critic’s Choice Award! In December of 2009 she won best supporting actress from the African-American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) for her role in “Precious”, making her AAFCA's first ever unanimous vote in an acting category!
She is a New York Times best selling author, hosted the B.E.T Awards three times and in 2002 she starred in “The Vagina Monologues” where she was part of the first all black celebrity cast to perform the show. She has even been nominated for a Grammy for the comedy album “Queens of Comedy” in 2002 and was the first woman comedienne to host “Showtime at the Apollo”. I could go on and on about this lady, but simply put… She is the best! There is NO stopping this lady and I am very proud to say that she is the FIRST “Fluff Of The Month”!
